A few of our members have complained to me that our Sub-branch never appears in the Listening Post, unfortunately this has been true, so I thought I would drop down a few words on what has been happening within our Sub-branch.
Quite a lot has happened over the last few months in regards to the Sub-branch and the members in general, firstly we are in the process of a restructure, this includes a possible change of operating hours, there is a monthly trial as to the pros & cons of this, which will benefit members in the long run, we have had a change of committee so to speak, the Executive is basically the same and a few younger members have come onto the committee, about time too.
We also have a new “Entertainment committee” who are in the process of arranging functions for the members, the first being a “Halloween” night on the 31st Oct. more to follow and our kitchen is operating on Friday nights with excellent meals for the members and guests, along with our Friday night live music or Karaoke.
The Sub-branch has gone through a low spell recently, but that, hopefully has been sorted and the element that was causing the dramas have now gone and one thing that has been a worry for us is the rather outlandish bad rumour that the Sub-branch is closing, that I am happy to say is not true and all the people we have spoken to are more than happy that this is the case, there are no plans to close the Sub-branch under any circumstances, these rumours, we believe, have come from a disgruntled ex-member.
Numbers have started to improve rapidly and the monthly meetings are becoming bigger. Our members are becoming more active and involved with the new events that are happening around the Sub-branch. Of our members who are members of the Rhodesian Veterans Association they are celebrating their 50 yrs of U.D.I. at a dinner to be held later this year, also other groups have started to use our Sub-branch as their meeting place and as a subsequence of this we have new members.
We obtained a Federal Govt. grant for our aging 25Pdr gun, which is located at the entrance to our carpark (Memorial parade ground) and as part of that we picked up another “trail” for the gun, so if any Sub-branch is after a trail for their field gun, please give the Sub-branch a call, our field gun is now restored, repainted and looking great.
We now have a new website: www.nollamararsl.asn.au, this is now being managed by one of our members who is also our P.R.O., please feel free to look around and keep an eye on it regularly, as we have new events and news all the time. The new look and activity on the new website has started to show dividends and the Sub-branch is looking forward to a better and more progressive 2015 – 2016.
One point which must be raised is our annual pre-ANZAC day parade & service, this year’s parade was a great success with the involvement of our members, the local New Zealand members and the local Maori community, Defence force Cadets etc, we intend to have a similar event in 2016 as well as our Dawn Service on ANZAC day itself.
