OUR STORY

Nollamara RSL (formally Nollamara-North Perth) Sub-Branch was established in 1957 by founding Members Digger Constant, Mr. Noel Coombs, Mr. Reg Craig, Mr. G.A.Critchely, Mr. Len Phenna, Mr. Kelly Prunster, Mr. Ray West and Mr. E.F. Wood.

Holding meetings from a tin shed near Dog Swamp and built from borrowed materials found on building sites during the night, “as the traffic was very light at night time” ( their words).

As membership grew they applied and where granted a block of land by Her Majesty on a peppercorn lease out in the sticks (as it was then) in the new suburb of Nollamara.

Mr. Coombs was elected at a meeting to find Lot 476 Sylvia St. Nollamara and report back to the the Members on its location. After all necessary approvals and a bank loan for $5000.00 were obtained, Mr. Ray West had the job of supervising the building of our Sub-Branch and officially opened by Mr. W.S. Lonnie CBE,MVO, MC State President of the R.S.S.A.I.L.A. and Sub-Branch President Mr. E. Green. On the 1 Feb. 1964.

1969 saw a need to extend again with the building of the new Bar to service a growing Membership list and in 1999 the building of new office and conference room.

Our goal then as it is today is to foster goodwill and support to ex-service personnel, their families and the community. A number of Ex-Service and community groups use the Sub-Branch for meetings and other social activities.
